Students release ladybugs for Earth Day

Students learned that ladybugs serve as a natural pesticide by feeding on insects.

BOISE - Students at Parkcenter Montessori in Boise released thousands of ladybugs today in honor of Earth Day.

Leading up to Earth Day, students are learning that ladybugs serve as a natural pesticide by feeding on insects that could otherwise harm the health of gardens, trees and shrubs.

And those kids were not short on their ladybug knowledge.

"If they see red, they crawl on to red cuz they like red. It's their favorite color."

The kids were definitely dressed for the occasion. They wore red and black and had antennas just like ladybugs. Some kids even had their faces painted.

It’s a great way for them to learn about protecting the environment.
