SUN VALLEY, Idaho — Sun Valley Resort will officially kick off its 84th winter season on Thanksgiving.

The resort announced on Monday that the River Run side of Bald Mountain will open at 9 a.m. on Thursday.

In addition to firing up the ski lifts for the first time, the resort will also be giving away prizes for skiers and snowboarders who show up early.

The first eight people in line on opening day will receive an exclusive jersey and gift card to celebrate the start of the season. Sunny the Bear will also be on hand for photos.

An Instagram scavenger hunt is planned for Saturday and Sunday.

The five lifts scheduled to open this week are River Run, Lookout Express, Christmas, Roundhouse Express Gondola, and the Kinderspielplatz. Ten runs will be open, and more could be added if the mountain gets more snow.

Dollar Mountain is schedule to begin operations on Friday, December 13.
