Update: Police shoot, kill suspect after he pulls out gun at Boise park

Deputies approached a suspect at the Optimist Youth Sports Complex Tuesday night. ACSO said deputies shot him after he pulled out a gun.

BOISE, Idaho — The Ada County Sheriff's Office said deputies shot and killed a suspect at the Optimist Youth Sports Complex in Boise Tuesday night.

ACSO said deputies were searching for a suspect involved in a felony sex crime case and found him at the complex. A spokesperson said the suspect had also made suicidal statements.

When deputies approached the suspect, the spokesperson said he did not listen to their commands and pulled out a gun. The sheriff's office said deputies at the scene shot him around 5:45 p.m.

It is unclear if both deputies hit the man, where he was hit and how many times. It is also unclear what the pursuit looked like leading up to when the suspect and deputies got to the park.

A spokesperson said there "were activities at the other side of the park. However, the incident was isolated and away from them."

KTVB spoke with several neighbors about the shooting, and Ashley Gallegos said she was in her room when she heard two sounds that she said sounded like explosions.

"Its definitely an uneasy feeling," she said. "Especially because I grew up here and not used to being around that."

The sheriff's office said the deputies began life-saving measures, but the suspect died at the scene. No deputies were injured.

Both deputies are on administrative leave per ACSO policy. Boise Police Department is leading the Critical Incident Task Force investigation.

"Because the investigation is ongoing, no additional information will be released about this incident at this time," a news release said.
