Suspected drunk driver in police custody following hours-long standoff

A Boise Police spokesperson said a suspected drunk driver hit a car and fled from police near Hickory and Cloverdale. The suspect forced their way into a crawlspace.

BOISE, Idaho — A man is in police custody after a four-hour standoff with police in Northwest Boise Tuesday evening.

A Boise Police spokesperson told KTVB around 5 p.m., officers responded to a report of a suspected drunk driver who hit a parked car near Hickory Drive and Cloverdale Road. When officers arrived, the suspect ran from them and broke into a vacant home on Lena Drive.

Police told KTVB officers initially tried to call the suspect to leave while they were "working to clear the home."

The Crisis Negotiators Team was then called, and the team spent hours trying to get him to come out. Police told KTVB that officers went in and found the suspect was in the crawl space.

The suspect was taken into police custody without incident.
