Teen dies after head-on collision on Highway 44 west of Star

The driver of a Chevrolet Silverado tried to overtake a semi-truck and crashed into the teen driving a Ford Focus. ISP said the teen died at the scene.

BOISE, Idaho — A teen is dead after they were involved in a head-on collision Thursday night on Highway 44 near Star.

Idaho State Police reported around 8:40 p.m., a 30-year-old man from Middleton was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado west on the highway and tried to overtake a semi-tuck. The Silverado was in the eastbound lane when the pickup truck crashed head-on into a teen driving a 2011 Ford Focus with two teen passengers.

Police said the teen driving the Ford Focus died at the scene from their injuries.

The two teen passengers and the driver of the Silverado, who wasn't wearing a seatbelt, were taken to the hospital for their injuries. Their condition is unknown.

Both lanes of Highway 44 were closed for more than four hours to allow emergency crews to assist those involved. Thursday's crash is under investigation by Idaho State Police.
