Update: Teen drowns in lake

The Middleton Police Department said the 13-year-old's body was recovered this morning.

MIDDLETON, Idaho — A 13-year-old boy has drowned in Middleton. According to the Middleton Police Department (MPD) the boy's body was recovered Monday, Sept. 9 at 8:30 a.m.

The boy had been called in as missing to police on the evening of Sept. 8. Police said they found clothing belonging to the boy next to the shore of a larger lake in the area. The MPD, Middleton Rural Fire District, Star Fire Protections District, and Ada County Sheriff's Dive Team began a search operation. The team searched into the night and the body was found this morning. 

The boy was pronounced dead on the scene. Police said no foul play is suspected.

"Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of the deceased during this tragic time," stated the MPD. "The family has been notified and they request privacy during this difficult time."

The MPD said the investigation is ongoing. 

The principal of Riverglen Junior High School, Trevor McKenna, issued a statement to parents at the school:

Dear Riverglen Families,
It is with profound sadness that we inform you of the tragic death of one of our students from Riverglen Junior High School due to a drowning incident in Middleton, Idaho. Our hearts go out to the family, friends, and all those impacted by this devastating loss. During this incredibly difficult time, we extend our deepest condolences and support to those grieving. 
In light of this tragedy, we understand that many students may be deeply affected. To support our students and staff, we will be offering counseling services for anyone who feels they may need assistance processing this loss. Our school counselors, along with additional professionals, will be available to meet with students and provide the necessary support.
Please encourage your child to seek help if they need it, and do not hesitate to reach out to the school if you feel your family could benefit from these services.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the impacted family, and we stand together as a community during this painful time.
