Tepee Springs fire under voluntary evacuations

Level 1 evacuations are in effect for the Tepee Springs Fire, burning 20 miles south of Riggins.

NEW MEADOWS -- Level 1 evacuations are underway for residents near the Tepee Springs Fire, burning 20 miles south of Riggins.

The lightning-caused fire began Wednesday and has grown to nearly 5,000 acres. Stage 1 evacuations are in place for Smokey Boulder-Elk Lake Road east and west of Highway 95.

The fire is currently burning on the east side of Highway 95 with zero percent containment.

Crews are working to protect the Elk Lake subdivision and are working to install a sprinkler system.

On Monday, additional resources arrived at the fire camp to help contain the blaze.

The Payette National Forest in the vicinity of the Tepee Springs Fire is currently closed to the public.
