DAVIS, Calif. — The University of California, Davis has a new head football coach and it's someone familiar with the program...

His name is Tim Plough and he's currently an assistant coach with the California Golden Bears in Berkeley.

"We are absolutely thrilled that Tim will be taking the helm of our football program and that the torch is passed from Coach Hawkins to one of our own," said UC Davis athletic director Rocko DeLuca in a statement.

Plough was a four-year letterwinner with the UC Davis Aggies from 2004-07 and started his coaching career as a student assistant at the university in 2008.

He became quarterbacks coach in 2009 and took on passing coordinator duties in 2010 before leaving for Northern Arizona in 2013.

He returned to Davis in 2017 to be offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach before leaving to be Boise State's offensive coordinator in 2021.

"I am so honored and humbled by this amazing opportunity," said Plough. "UC Davis is always in my heart and I'm a proud "Davis Guy." I want to build on the wonderful program that Coach Hawkins has developed and carry that momentum he's created into the future. I am extremely grateful for Chancellor May and Rocko for this incredible opportunity and for their belief in me. I can't wait to get back to Shredville and find joy every day."

Plough is replacing outgoing coach Dan Hawkins who announced earlier this week he's leaving after coaching the Aggies for seven seasons to spend more time with family.
