Treasure Valley woodworkers craft specialty pens for American troops overseas

The project's leader said the hand-carved pens will arrive to troops just in time for the holidays.

BOISE, Idaho — Woodworkers in Idaho are keeping busy ahead of Veterans Day as they craft more than 1,000 unique pens for American troops who are overseas.

Each pen is made out of wood that was donated locally and is hand-carved.

Aaron Cornell, who has been in charge of this project for the last 16 years, said the pens are shipped overseas to our troops and will arrive just in time for Christmas.

Cornell said he frequently gets thank-you notes from troops that get one of these unique pens during the holidays.

"They are saying we really appreciate getting it, something from home, it comes in at Christmas time, its something very unique to them," he said.

Cornell said that they made about 1,400 pens on Saturday alone.
