'Turbo burners' still missing after Spirit of Boise Balloon Classic

Boise's Scott Spencer says no questions asked, he just wants his turbo burners back.

BOISE — One of the high lights of Labor Day weekend is the grand finale of the spirit of Boise Balloon Classic.

Event organizers say the 2018 edition was a great event, but one disheartening incident has the ballooning community disappointed.

A very valuable piece of a hot air balloon set was stolen out of a balloon trailer, a set of "Zone Five turbo burners."

The burners are used to power the Dawn Treader balloon owned by Scott Spencer, one of the creators of the Spirit of Boise event.

The burners went missing out of a balloon trailer Thursday morning from Spencer's home in Boise.

Spencer says the burners are an ambitious item to steal since they each weigh in at 60 pounds.

A police report about the theft has been filed. Spencer also found the theft falls under the same law as "tampering" with an aircraft, so the FBI could get involved as well.

Bottom line though, Spencer just wants the burners back, no questions asked.

He is asking the community to keep an eye out.

"Bring them back, they are not any good to you, they are not good to anybody, they would make terrible marshmallow burners," said Spencer. "Take them to the police department, leave them in your favorite restaurant in town, bring them back to my house, you know where that is."

Spencer says he is also offering a $500 reward for their return.

He is really disappointed this happened and says nothing like has happened to him in his 48-year ballooning career.
