IDAHO, USA — The Eve Devitt Fund has awarded two Idaho students with scholarships for their work on human rights in Idaho. Scar Rulien, from Twin Falls and Eve Devitt from Boise received $2,500 scholarships. Both of them are activists for the LGBTQ+ community.

Rulien founded the Bruin High Gender and Sexuality Alliance (GSA) at Twin Falls High School, organized Southern Idaho Pride Week and they lead rallies and workshops on Queer liberation.

"Recently, as hate groups have sought to ban books featuring LGBTQ+ characters and storylines in Twin Falls and across the state, Rulien has helped to found Idahoans Against Book Bans sharing stories, supporting libraries, and fighting back against far-right attacks on Idaho youth. Rulien's work isn't limited to Idaho, though. They serve on GLSEN's National Leadership Council working to create safe and inclusive school environments for queer students across the country and they've been recognized as equalpride's 2024 valedictorian and featured in The Advocate Magazine for their activism," stated a news release.

Rulien begins their collegiate education at Boise State University and plans to double major in Film and Television Arts and Narrative Arts.

Devitt has been a vocal member of the LGBTQ+ community in Idaho since high school as well. She has spoken at the Idaho Legislature and the national media about her experience in Idaho. The Eve Devitt Fund is named for her, and she was awarded the scholarship when she accepted nomination of president for the organization.

"She has also been involved in local and national climate justice initiatives, working for Snake River wild salmon and steelhead recovery with the Idaho Conservation League's Youth Salmon Protectors and making headlines after her arrest in U.S. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy's office over FEMA budget negotiations in a September 2023 Sunrise Movement protest," stated the release.

Devitt plans to attend the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York and Los Angeles to study Acting on Camera.
