BOISE, Idaho — The water slide at Eagle Island State Park is set to be removed later this year due to a number of machinery issues, the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation announced Thursday.
Officials closed the slide until further notice in June 2023, and it has been idle ever since due to equipment failures. The slide, which was originally constructed in 1983, will remain closed this summer.
Thursday's news release said fixing the aging water slide's issues is not considered practical because of its outdated equipment and the "extreme cost to retrofit the slide."
Eagle Island State Park management is working to determine options for how the space can be used in the future, once the water slide is removed later this year.
“The water slide at Eagle Island State Park experienced a lot of operational concerns over the last season that have led to the difficult decision to close it down after 40 years,” park manager Johannes Giessen said. “The failure of the chlorination system, the failure of the water filtration and pump systems, the worn structures, as well as a rusted out holding pool led to the closure. A lot of these components were original and at the end of their lives and cannot be replaced.”
The Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation said Eagle Island visitors are asked to avoid the area of the water slide and be aware of posted closure signs.
"We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause," the news release said.
