BOISE -- Construction is beginning on a new shelter for the Women's and Children's Alliance.
A groundbreaking ceremony took place Thursday. Boise City Council members, donors and WCA board members celebrated the event.
The new two-story shelter will have 16 transitional units with a shared living room and dining, kitchen and laundry facilities on each floor.
Each unit will have its own bathroom.
The WCA helps women and children dealing with domestic abuse and sexual assault.
Executive Director Bea Black says the new housing units will give them more time to find safe, affordable housing options.
To pay for the project, the WCA launched a $1.8 million fundraising campaign in April of last year. They are about $150,000 away from their goal.
