Weiser noprofit leads charge on proposed splash pad project

A determined nonprofit is at the forefront of bringing families together by potentially bringing the town another way to cool off.

WEISER, Idaho — Temperatures are rising in the Gem State, and a mom from Weiser is taking charge and is trying to bring a splash pad to town.

Brittany Phillips is the organizer of the nonprofit, “The Weiser Splash Pad Project,” and has been working towards bringing the community another way to cool off during the hot summer months. While the city has a community pool, she believes a splash pad could be another option for families without having to commute to neighboring cities.

“I think it'll bring people together. A lot of the community wants something for smaller kids. Most of us go to, like, pay up for the swimming pool, or Midvale, or the splash pads in Fruitland, Ontario. So, we have to travel outside of the community," she said.

Phillips said by bringing a splash pad to Weiser, parents wouldn't have to take their kids out of town.

"It will keep the money within the community for that kind of thing as well," she said.

City officials have been receptive to the idea, but the project will cost roughly $300,000, and it’s out of reach without help. The Splash Pad Project started in August 2023 and has raised over $7,000. The project’s Facebook page has over 400 members who have supported and participated in fundraising efforts.

The project's next fundraiser will be a color run, the first in the city of Weiser. The nonprofit currently has eight sponsors to help fund the 5k.

Everyone is invited to Memorial Park in Weiser, where the food and fun will be held on July 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Anyone wanting to get involved can join the Weiser Splash Pad Project Facebook group.
