What a splash: 'Great Dolphin Dunk' raises $64,000 for Boys & Girls Clubs of Ada County

The race of 10,000 toy dolphins through Roaring Springs has been making a splash for 24 years

BOISE, Idaho — The 'Great Dolphin Dunk' raised $64,000 to help fund affordable after-school programs for kids across Ada County.

The annual event happened Sunday, august 11 at Roaring Springs. The Dolphin Dunk has been making a splash for 24 years, with the money raised going to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Ada County

10,000 toy dolphins raced through the water park's endless river, with the first four dolphins across the finish line winning a prize.

Dolphins were adopted for $5 each, all money from the fundraiser goes to help fund affordable academic support, healthy meals, and a safe place to go after school for more than 4,500 kids in Ada County.

"We're open to give youth a safe place, opportunities to thrive, to be themselves, and to have positive mentorship," Boys & Girls Clubs of Ada County Marketing Director Tim O'Donnell said.

There are eight Boys & Girls Clubs across Ada County. The organization's most recent club opened in Kuna last month. The clubs focus on health and fitness, academic success, good character and leadership to help prepare the children they serve to graduate from high school, go on to college, and thrive as adults.

Over its 24 year history, the Great Dolphin Dunk has raised more than $1 million for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Ada County.
