443-acre Gem County fire caused by a 'swather striking a rock'

No structures or lives were lost. However, an estimated 443 acres burned.

EMMETT, Idaho — Gem County Fire determined a vegetation fire that broke out near Emmett on Friday, June 21 was caused from "a swather striking a rock."

The fire was located about four miles north of Emmett on Van Deusen Road. No structures or people were injured. However, an estimated 443 acres burned.

The fire was burning on private land. It was first reported on Friday at approximately 1:45 p.m. and was contained after a coordinated effort between Gem County Fire and EMS, Star Fire Protection District, Eagle Fire Department, Meridian Fire Department, Emmett Fire Department Auxiliary, BLM Idaho Fire and Rangeland Fire Protection Association.
