BOISE, Idaho — Several fires were sparked by lightning following an afternoon storm on Monday, Aug. 5. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), updated the fire information around 8 p.m.
Jump Fire
The Jump Fire started by lightning Monday around 2:30 p.m., by lightning. It did not burn any structures and there are no current evacuation notices.
It burned over 20,000 acres and is 80 percent contained. However, it did scare many neighbors outside of the town of Marsing.
“My neighbor – she’s right in the middle of it so I was just so fearful for her house,” said Stacy Callaway, who’s home was not burned but it did get close.
Callaway said she watched the fire burn through the night – she described it as “unreal.” However, she said the firefighters did such a good job that she wasn’t scared for her home.
“I felt protected -- I was in awe of the men who did that job they were fricking amazing,” Callaway said.
On Tuesday afternoon, the BLM announced due to fire activity, it's temporarily closing the Jump Creek Recreation Site. The site will remain closed until the threat of the wildfire subsides.
As of August 9, the fire is reported controlled as of 4 p.m. on August 8.
Bruneau Fire
The Bruneau Fire is burning near Mountain Home and is mapped at 545 acres, forward progress of the fire has been stopped. The cause of this fire is under investigation, said fire officials.
Estimated containment at noon on August 6.
Oreana Fire
South of Oreana, this fire has burned an estimated at 1,600 acres and was also caused by lightning, according to NIFC.
NIFC reports 0% containment as of Tuesday, August 6.
Some fires were taken care of by Monday night, including the Glenns Ferry Fire, which was stopped by fire crews. It burned roughly 3.5 acres and was also caused by the lightning in the area.
