Idaho governor to visit Lapwai as Gwen and Texas fires are nearly 100% contained

On Thursday's visit, Gov. Brad Little will get briefings on the wildfires burning there and discuss ongoing recovery efforts.

LAPWAI, Idaho — Idaho Governor Brad Little will visit Lapwai to recognize the state of the Gwen and Texas fires and connect with the communities affected.

His itinerary begins with flying over the Gwen and Texas fires in a black hawk helicopter.

After the flight, Gov. Little will have a briefing on the fires in Lapwai. The meeting will recognize the efforts of local farmers, state resources, communities and tribal agencies who helped fight the fire. They will also discuss ongoing recovery efforts, community needs and resources.

The briefing is set to start at 12:30 p.m. at the Lapwai parade grounds softball field. Community members are welcome to attend.

The Gwen Fire is still burning East of Lapwai after starting on July 24. Idaho Department of Lands (IDOL) determined that lighting is what caused the fire. It is now nearly 100% contained.

The Texas fire burning East of Kendrick is now also 100% contained. It began July 15, and IDOL investigators said that it was human caused.
