Several fires south of Glenns Ferry jeopardize over 20,000 acres

The Bureau of Land Management said crews worked through the night after lighting caused three fires south of Glenns Ferry.

BOISE, Idaho — The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) on Thursday posted on Facebook alerting the public of three fires burning south of Glenns Ferry. Crews with the BLM Twin Falls District responded lightning-caused fires Wednesday night.

The Soldier Fire is located near Winter Camp Butte and has burned 5,312 acres as of Thursday morning. The fire ignited overnight, and crews are working to secure a perimeter around the fire. BLM said the Soldier Fire has primarily burned grass, and one engine is working on it.

The Coonskin Fire is burning 12 miles northeast of Castleford, and is the largest of the three fires, estimated to be more than 20,000 acres. Two overhead, four engines, two dozers and Three Creek Rangeland Fire Protection Association are working the fire.

Crews reportedly worked through the night, BLM said on social media, with additional crew members arriving Thursday to relieve those who have been working.

Lily Grande is another fire burning in the area, six miles southwest of Castleford, taking over 1.7 acres of land. Little other information is known about this fire.
