Foothills wildfire cancels classes at East Junior High, Dallas Harris Elementary on Friday

Boise School District announced that they are closing the two schools on Friday, due to a wildfire in the area. Riverstone International School has also closed.

BOISE, Idaho — The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), and other local agencies, responded to a fire early morning on Friday. 

As of roughly 7:30 a.m., the Boise School District (BSD) announced they are closing East Junior High School and Dallas Harris Elementary School, due to the fire and smoke in the area. Any students on the bus at time of announcement will be taken to Les Bois Junior High School, where parents can pick their child up. 

BSD reminds folks to stay safe and follow any updates from local officials.

At roughly 8 a.m. on Friday, Riverstone International School has also closed today due to the fire. The school said they will see students on Monday. 

At roughly 5:30 a.m., BLM responded to what officials are calling the Valley Fire. Containment and control times have not been provided, as it's a new fire. 

Highway 21 has been closed as a result of the fire. The junction of Highway 21 and Warm Springs Road to Eckert Road is closed for public and fire crew safety. Please avoid the area. According to Idaho511, there is a "major" closure on State Highway 21 at milepost 3 (Warm Springs Road). All lanes are closed. 

Mapping has not been able to be completed. In an update around 8 a.m. on Friday, BLM Idaho Fire states the fire has grown to roughly 2,000 acres. 

Crews are actively working the scene, trying to slow fire progression.
