Evacuations lifted for 50 acre wildfire burning in Orofino

Clearwater County officials say six homes and numerous outbuildings have been lost.

OROFINO, Idaho — Clearwater County has lifted evacuations that were in place for the wildfire burning near Orofino. They also announced that the forward rate of spread had been stopped for the Hospital Fire that burned 53 acres. At this time, the fire is 80% contained.

According to Clearwater County officials, six structures were lost in the fire as well as numerous outbuildings. Residents along Wixson Heights Road will be asked to show ID when being let in.

It is unknown if the evacuation center at the Tabernacle Church, located at 1839 Michigan Avenue will remain open.

Evacuees can also go to the old junior high school gym. The fair barn park is available for animals.

Residents are asked to stay out of the area while crews work.

Sheriff Chris Goetz said in a Facebook post, "If you are traveling on the Dent Bridge Road, please use caution and do not stop where the fire has burned.  There will be fire fighters working on both sides of the road along with debris rolling onto the roadway."
