VALE, Ore. - A trio of lightning-sparked wildfires in eastern Oregon are expected to be controlled Sunday night, fire managers said.

The Juntura Complex is made up of three fires burning near the Malheur River between Vale and Burns. The fires, which were started by lightning on Aug. 7, have burned through about 38 square miles of dry grass and brush.

At one point, the fires threatened several homes, range land, sage grouse habitat, and the Highway 20 corridor, officials said.

As of Sunday afternoon the fires were 85 percent contained.
