Women killed in motorcycle crash identified

The crash happened at around 6 p.m. Sunday near Ustick Road and 43rd Street.

GARDEN CITY - The Ada County Coroner's Office has released the identities of two women killed in a single motorcycle crash Sunday evening.

The women are 44-year-old Angela Davis and 36-year-old Melissa Gavard, both of Boise. Davis was driving the bike when it crashed on Ustick Road.

The coroner lists the cause of death as blunt force trauma. The deaths have been ruled an accident.

The crash happened at around 6 p.m. Sunday near Ustick Road and 43rd Street in Garden City.

Garden City Police Sgt. Leon Dennis said there was not another vehicle involved in the crash, and it's not clear what caused the motorcycle riders to lose control and wreck.

"When we arrived, there were two people down - they had both been occupants, or riders on the motorcycle, and both were pronounced dead at the scene," he said.

Members of the Ada County Sheriff's CRASH Reconstruction Team responded to investigate.

Ustick was closed between 43rd and Mountain View Drive, but it was reopened just after 10 p.m.

Neither of the women were wearing helmets, Garden City police said.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

In a news release, Garden City Police Lt. Abe Blount said the crash marks the second serious wreck in Garden City on Ustick Road in less than a week.

Brian Slagel, a pedestrian struck by a car in the area Tuesday, remains in critical condition.

"These are sad and difficult investigations for everyone involved," Blount said. "Our deepest sympathies go out to the family and loved ones of the victims in this accident."
