MERIDIAN - Idaho State Police on Wednesday said they will soon be giving the results of a monthslong investigation into the shooting of a Council rancher involving two Adams County sheriff's deputies last November.

Jack Yantis was shot and killed Nov. 1, 2015, after a vehicle crashed into one of his bulls north of Council.

Adams County Sheriff Ryan Zollman has said the bull, which was injured in the collision, started charging at emergency responders and other vehicles.

Deputies were getting ready to put the animal down when Yantis arrived on the scene with a rifle.

Zollman said there was an altercation and Yantis and both deputies all fired their weapons.

Yantis was fatally wounded and died at the scene. One of the deputies suffered a minor injury.

ISPsaid they have worked diligently on the investigation during the past four months and will be handing over the results to the Idaho Attorney General's Office in the coming days.

The AG's office is acting as the special prosecutor in the case.

"We want the individuals, families and community to know that this investigation has been at the top of our priority list and we are eager for its conclusion," said ISP Capt. Bill Gardiner. "As with all investigations, the work must be thoroughly and accurately completed. We appreciate the patience displayed by all involved."

ISP said detectives have interviewed 42 people - many of them multiple times.

There were 28 items of evidence collected, and they were sent to four laboratories for forensic analysis.

ISP said detectives are awaiting results from two labs to close the investigation, but they've been told that the analyses by both labs are complete and that the reports will arrive at any time. The labs have not provided a firm date, ISP said.

When the reports are received, the case will be turned over to the AG's office.

ISP said they have worked with the AG's office to speed the investigation along as quickly as possible.

The public will be informed when the investigation is complete, ISP said.
