BOISE, Idaho — The City of Trees is home to beautiful features such as the Boise foothills, the greenbelt and an abundance of parks named after some of the Idaho women who've left their mark on the Gem State. It is also home to Zoo Boise, which USA Today has named as one of the best zoos in the country.
Zoo Boise made it onto the 'Top 20' list of best zoos in the country. The next phase in the competition is to make it into the Top 10, and maybe even obtain the title of the '#1 USA's Best Zoo' - a goal the community can help it achieve!

"This is an incredible honor for Zoo Boise and all of our supporters," said Director Gene Peacock. "This kind of recognition, especially for our animal care and conservation efforts, means a lot."
According to USA Today, experts selected the Top 20 zoos by analyzing the facilities and grading them on animal care and enrichment, as well as interactions between animals and human visitors.
Zoo Boise also received acknowledgment for its operations in 2023, when it was reaccredited by the Association of Zoos & Aquariums, the gold standard for zoos, according to Zoo Boise. Representatives with the zoo said that since 2007. the parks and rec. department has generated more than $4 million for animal conservation efforts in the wild.
"We've always known Zoo Boise is a state-of-the-art facility and I'm proud of the team for continuing to lead the pack," added Boise Parks and Recreation Director Doug Holloway.
