First $1,000,000 raffle winner claims grand-prize

Andrew Nachman from McCall is the one of two grand prize winners. He said he plans on putting the money towards his kids' college education.

BOISE, Idaho — One of the two grand prize winners of the Idaho Lottery's $1,000,000 raffle has claimed their coveted prize.

On Thursday, Jan. 11, a McCall resident, Andrew Nachman, claimed his prize, according to a news release. He purchased his ticket from a McCall Maverik store. The winning store will receive $20,000.

It was also revealed he was on vacation and on a video call when he learned he was one of the grand prize winners.

"It was three minutes to the call, so I checked it. When it said it was the million-dollar winner, I was convinced I had entered the number wrong," Nachman said. "I ran downstairs and gave the ticket to my wife for her to check and then call the Lottery office."

"Right in the middle of my video conference call, she sent me a text that said, 'I'm sorry to inform you,' and then there was a long pause between texts…'But it is confirmed!'," Nachman recalled. "It was really hard to hide my excitement on the call."

Nachman said he plans on putting his winnings towards his children's college education.

The Idaho Lottery said the second grand prize winner has not claimed their prize. As KTVB previously reported, the 091588 winning ticket was sold in Benewah County. The winners are given 180 days after the Dec. 27 drawing to redeem their prize.

The Idaho lottery said the raffle had raised over $1.5 million for its beneficiaries, which are public schools and Idaho's Permanent Building Fund.
