'Lucky': Utah man wins $80,000 on Friday the 13th

A Utah man's wife bought a Big Spin ticket from a Malad, Idaho and won the chance to spin the wheel. On Friday at the Boise Towne Square, they won $80,000.

BOISE, Idaho — Friday the 13th is known for being an unlucky day, but for a Utah couple, it was their lucky day as they won thousands from the Idaho Lottery.

On Friday, the Idaho lottery announced that Grant Toomer from Centerville, Utah, had spun the Big Spin wheel inside the Boise Towne Square Mall in front of family and shoppers and won $80,000.

"Today is just another day," said Toomer at first, in a news release.  But after winning $80,000 from his spin, he changed his tune. "Maybe today is a lucky day!"

Lottery officials said Toomer won the chance to spin the wheel after his wife traveled to Idaho and purchased a ticket from the Chat 'n Chew in Malad, Idaho.

"Just before Thanksgiving, she made the trek north from Centerville and returned home with a few Big Spin tickets for Grant to play. One of those tickets turned out to be the fourth big winner from the fourth edition of the Big Spin," the Idaho Lottery said.

Lottery officials asked Toomer what they would do with the money, and he said, "We're looking at visiting family in the south and possibly taking a river cruise."

The Idaho lottery said two top prizes remain for the Big Spin.
