Mars secrets unlocked at Craters of the Moon

Nasa invested in ISU research to better understand Mars

POCATELLO, Idaho - Researchers at Idaho State University are hoping to learn something about Mars from a study they're doing at the Craters of the Moon National Monument.

Researchers at ISU's Department of Geosciences are breaking down historic events at the massive volcanic field to help understand exactly how eruptions occurred at Craters thousands of years ago.

The Idaho State Journal reports that many of the techniques and equipment used during the study have a connection to a NASA project that includes understanding the formation of planets like Mars.

NASA has invested $500,000 in the ISU research.

Once the field work is done and the data has been analyzed by the super computers at ISU, findings will be presented at a conference of the American Geological Union.
