Davis Webb, former starting quarterback at Texas Tech, plans to compete for Cal this season, he told FoxSports.com.
Webb, who had committed to Colorado in late January, will play for two coaches with strong ties to his previous head coach, Kliff Kingsbury. Cal's offense is helmed by head coach Sonny Dykes and new offensive coordinator Jake Spavital.
Webb passed for more than 5,000 yards in parts of three seasons with the Red Raiders but could not hold onto the starting job. He remained a favorite of the team's coaches and players due to his hard work and leadership. He has a 46:22 touchdown:interception ratio.
Cal lost Jared Goff, the No. 1 pick in April's NFL draft, but has a large number of players competing for the starting quarterback job this spring and summer.
Webb's switch from Colorado to Cal was first reported by BuffStampede.com. Colorado offensive coordinator Darren Chiavarini, who joined the Buffaloes on Jan. 1 after two seasons as an assistant at Webb's former school, reacted with about as much class as he possibly could, considering the circumstances of Webb's change of heart.
