LOS ANGELES — Evan Ellingson, a former child actor known for "My Sister's Keeper" and "CSI: Miami," has died at the age of 35.
He was found in a bedroom at his residence in Fontana, California, on Nov. 5, according to coroner records.
Ellingson is best known for his role as Jesse Fitzgerald in the 2009 movie "My Sister's Keeper," starring opposite Cameron Diaz, Jason Patric and Abigail Breslin.
He played Kyle Harmon, the son of David Caruso's Lt. Horatio Caine, in 18 episodes of "CSI: Miami," and had key roles in the sitcom "Complete Savages" with Keith Carradine and Erik von Detten, and the drama "24" alongside Kiefer Sutherland. He also had a small part in Clint Eastwood's 2006 film "Letters from Iwo Jima."
Ellingson hasn't been on screen in more than 10 years. He stepped away from acting after 2010. His final credits were "My Sister's Keeper" and episodes of "CSI: Miami."
Ellingson's father told TMZ he died at a sober living home, and the actor had previously spoken about his struggles with addiction. Ellingson said he was "around 19" when he got into heavy drugs after his brother died.
"My older brother Austin, he died from a heroin overdose, and when he died ... it sent me over the edge,” the former actor said in a YouTube testimonial for a sober living facility.
His cause of death is pending the results of an autopsy performed Monday.
