WASHINGTON — Republican Rep. Mike Simpson won a 14th term to a U.S. House seat representing Idaho's 2nd Congressional District on Tuesday night, defeating Democratic challenger David Roth.
The district covers eastern and most of southern Idaho, including the city of Boise and the Idaho National Laboratory, a top nuclear research lab. Simpson served in the Idaho Legislature for several years before he was first elected to the U.S. House in 1998.
The Associated Press declared Simpson the winner at 10:46 p.m. MT (12:46 a.m. ET).
Republican Rep. Russ Fulcher was also reelected to a U.S. House seat representing Idaho, defeating Democratic challenger Kaylee Peterson on Tuesday night.
Fulcher was first elected to the 1st Congressional District in 2018, filling the seat vacated by former Republican congressman Raul Labrador. Fulcher previously served nine years in the state Legislature, starting in 2005 when he was appointed to the state Senate. The district includes northern Idaho and the western portion of the state, including the city of Coeur d'Alene and bedroom communities outside of Boise.
