‘All we can do is vote:’ Idahoans line up at the polls for early voting in Ada County

“About 15-20% of the folks that end up voting in the election come up and early vote in person,” Ada County Clerk Trent Tripple said.

BOISE, Idaho — Early voting is underway in Ada County at six locations – the Ada County Elections Office, Meridian City Hall, Boise City Hall, Eagle Public Library, Kuna City Hall and Library! At Bown Crossing. The mobile voting unit is also traveling around the Treasure Valley to help people vote.

It’s open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. until Friday, Nov. 1. It’s not required to have early voting in the state of Idaho, but if a county does decide to have it, they have to hold it for two weeks.

Ada County Clerk Trent Tripple said the county's early voting lasts for three weeks.

“Turnout has been really surprisingly good,” Tripple said. “We've had some short lines. They're not long lines, but lines at all of our early voting sites.”

If people want to vote and are not already registered, they can register on-site at any of the early voting locations. They must bring a valid government ID and proof of residency.

Voters from throughout the Treasure Valley came to cast their ballots, and said they think it’s even more important this year to show up to vote.

“This is a crucial time for us to get out and get it done, because that's all we can do is vote,” Ron Smart said.

Others said they came out early to avoid the long lines.

“We just like to vote early and get it done and get it out of the way, beat the crowd and then watch the results on TV every night,” Ralph Tamez said.
