In 1947 the citizens of Middleton voted to keep Middleton a "dry city" meaning, no establishment can sell liquor by the drink. The city is only authorized to license establishments for beer and wine. Residents are voting over whether to allow alcohol back into businesses.

If this ballot measure is approved, the city would be authorized to license establishments such as restaurants, hotels and bars, to sell liquor by the drink for on-premises consumption.

Liquor can be sold in Middleton, but only at state-run liquor stores.
