NOTUS -- Voters in Notus have again rejected a bond for the school district to do away with an old elementary school.
Unofficial results posted to the Canyon County website show 61% of people voted in favor of the bond. However, a super-majority of 66% was needed to pass it.
This is the second time voters have rejected the bond this year.
In August of this year, 63% voted in favor of the bond, with 168 people voting to pass it and 98 voting against it .
On November 4th, more people turned out to the polls this second time around. Results show that 312 people voted in favor of the bond, but 196 (38%) people voted against it.
The schoolhouse in Notus was build in 1926, and officials with the district said they had safety concerns with the old school building.
Had the bond been approved, residents who owned a home valued at $114,000 would have payed an additional $59.82 in taxes.
