18-year-old drowns in Yellow Pine campground

Japheth Schrock of Mesa drowned on Saturday at Ice Hole Campground.

VALLEY COUNTY, IDAHO, Idaho — An 18-year-old man drowned at a campground on Saturday after he told his family he was going for a swim.

Japheth Schrock of Mesa was camping with his family in the Ice Hole campground in Yellow Pine.

Schrock told his family he was going to swim in the creek around 10:45 a.m., said Kevin Copperi, a lieutenant with the Valley County Sheriff's Office. Around noon, someone from across the creek saw him face-down in the water.

Family members rushed over to pull Schrock from the water and began to give the man CPR until paramedics arrived to the campground, Copperi said.

However, paramedics determined that Schrock had died and could not revive him.
