Suspect in Vancouver Mall shooting on Halloween night to appear in court Monday

Police found Travis Ward, 32, at a residence on Saturday and arrested him for the shooting that killed one man and wounded two others.

VANCOUVER, Wash. — The man accused of the deadly shooting at Vancouver Mall on Halloween night is scheduled to appear in court on Monday. He was arrested Saturday night, Vancouver police reported.

Officers received information that the suspect, 32-year-old Travis Ward, was inside a Vancouver residence, located in the area of Southeast 18th Circle and Eastridge Drive. At around 6:17 p.m. Saturday, with assistance from SWAT, Ward surrendered and was taken into custody. He was interviewed by detectives and booked into jail shortly before 9 p.m.

Ward faces charges of first-degree murder and first-degree assault. He's scheduled to make his first court appearance Monday afternoon.

"Detectives wish to thank everyone that submitted information and tips that assisted with this case," the Vancouver Police Department said, adding that most of the tips came through Facebook.

Witnesses said the shooter was wearing a Halloween mask when he opened fire during a trick-or-treat event with families at the mall on Thursday night. Three men were shot and one of them died. The other two men who were shot were taken to a hospital and have since been released. Vancouver police believe it was a targeted attack.
