BOISE, Idaho — Chad Daybell has been booked into the Idaho Maximum Security Institution outside of Boise after a jury sentenced him to death following an eight-week trial.
Daybell's booking photo was released on Friday, showing him in the designated yellow jumpsuit. The mugshot comes just days after Daybell's attorney, John Prior, filed a few motions for Daybell.
Prior filed a motion to appeal Daybell's death sentence, as well as filed a motion to have a public defender take over the case for post-conviction proceedings.
For Daybell to receive the death penalty, Idaho law requires all jurors in capital punishment cases to unanimously find the defendant guilty of murder in the first degree.
Daybell was convicted of three counts of first-degree murder for the deaths of Tammy Daybell, his late wife, JJ Vallow and Tylee Ryan, his current wife's two children. Just days after his conviction, he was sentenced to death by the same jury that convicted him.
Daybell's trial began April 1 with jury selection and concluded with closing arguments May 29, 2024. The verdict of guilty was reached within five and a half hours. The death sentence deliberation was reached after less than eight hours.
