Verdict reached in the Chad Daybell trial

Chad Daybell is facing eight counts in his capital murder trial, with a jury of his peers deciding his future.

BOISE, Idaho — After 30 days of testimony, the capital murder trial for Chad Daybell is coming to a close with the verdict being delivered by a selected juror on Thursday, at roughly 1:30 p.m.

Chad Daybell is facing nine counts– three counts of murder in the first degree, two counts of conspiracy to commit murder, conspiracy to commit grand theft by deception, as well as three counts of insurance fraud. Chad Daybell is facing these charges due to the deaths of his late wife, Tammy Daybell, and his current wife’s two children, JJ Vallow and Tylee Ryan.

Jury selection began April 1, and closing remarks were given May 29, an almost 8-week event.

In closing arguments, the state argued that all Chad Daybell wanted was "sex, money and power." After a two-hour long argument, prosecutor Lindsey Blake went through the entire case timeline and drew connections to why they selected the witnesses they did. The prosecution had called dozens of witnesses, many testifying about the health and well-being of Tammy Daybell.

After a lunch break, the defense began their arguments by poking at the prosecution by stating his argument will take far less time than the prosecution's. He then used a series of slides, displaying the jury instructions along the way. It was utilized to remind jurors of their decision on Daybell's charges.

The defense also used testimony from Dr. Greg Hampikian to point out that there was none of Chad Daybell's DNA on the tools found in the garage, further pushing Prior's argument for Chad's innocence. On the day that JJ Vallow was murdered, Prior points out that Melanie Gibb and David Warwick were in Lori Vallow's apartment, but police never looked into the couple.

After only two days deliberating, the jury has reached a verdict for Chad Daybell.

The jury reached their verdict on the following charges:

  • First-degree murder, Tammy Daybell - Guilty
  • First-degree murder, JJ Vallow - Guilty
  • First-degree murder, Tylee Ryan - Guilty
  • Conspiracy to commit murder, JJ Vallow - Guilty
  • Conspiracy to commit murder, Tylee Ryan - Guilty
  • Conspiracy to commit grand theft by deception - Guilty
  • Insurance fraud (three counts) - Guilty
