PHOENIX — An Arizona judge granted a request to evaluate Lori Vallow's competency.
The so-called "Doomsday Mom" has been in the Maricopa County Estrella Jail for nearly a year after being extradited from Idaho.
She is serving multiple life sentences in Idaho after she was convicted in 2023 for her role in the deaths of her children, Tylee and JJ, and the death of Tammy Daybell, the first wife of her husband Chad Daybell.
In Arizona, Vallow is charged with two counts of conspiracy to commit murder. She's pleaded not guilty to both charges.
In one case, court records show Vallow, along with her brother Alex Cox, are accused of conspiring to kill her former husband, Charles Vallow, who was shot and killed in Chandler in July 2019.
In the second case, Lori Vallow and Cox are accused of trying to kill their niece’s ex-husband outside his home in Gilbert in October 2019. He ultimately wasn’t injured.
Cox can’t be charged because he died in December 2019.
Vallow's attorney in Arizona filed for a Rule 11 Evaluation, in which a defendant undergoes an assessment to determine whether they are competent to stand trial.
Vallow's mental health and competency issues in Idaho caused several months of delays in that trial.
Her February 2025 trial date in Arizona has been vacated.
Vallow's current husband, Chad Daybell, was convicted for killing Tylee, JJ and Tammy earlier this year in Idaho. He was sentenced to death and is one of nine people currently on Idaho's death row.
