EAGLE -- With less than 50 days until the official start of the high school football season, teams from across the state descended upon the Optimist football fields in Eagle this weekend to take part in the annual Famous Idaho Potato Bowl 7v7 Passing Challenge and Lineman Challenge.
The tournament was a chance for teams to show off their skills prior to the start of fall conditioning.
Defending state champions Rocky Mountain (5A), Bishop Kelly (4A) and Emmett (3A), along with 23 other teams competed in a seven vs. seven passing challenge and
Capital senior quarterback Drew Korf said the tournament was a chance to get team chemistry flowing prior to the start of the season.
"It's competition, so the more we can get the better," he said.
"When you're in a situation and it's tough and you have to make a play, you still have to make a play in a competitive environment and boy did we make plays today," Capital head coach Todd Simis said.
Capital defeated Skyview 33-31 in the 7v7 final to claim the 2016 title.
In the junior varsity division, Eagle defeated Meridian.
Mountain View varsity won the 'tug-o-war' title over Eagle, tough Eagle claimed the 'lineman challenge' victory.
