BOISE-- Boisean and two-time gold medalist Kristin Armstrong has always been a recognizable figure when she walks or rides the streets of Boise. But now that familiarity has gone up a bit. One week after returning to the City of Trees with her second gold medal, Armstrong says that she is greeted and congratulated by citizens just about everywhere that she goes, especially at stores and coffee shops.
It's been a whirlwind for sure. Coming back to Boise, Idaho, is something I looked forward to for sure, Armstrong said. This community has always been behind me. I go out to get coffee, and people are just so proud. They genuinely feel like they were a part of this whole journey, and it really feels special to me.
That pride will be celebrated in a more official capacity when the City of Boise holds a victory ride and birthday celebration for the golden girl. The ride will start at the Boise Depot, starting at 3 PM, and go to Capitol Park, where birthday cake will be served.
Even though she is now retired from professional cycling, Saturday's ride will not be Armstrong's last. She says that she will continue to ride her bike for fun and exercise, and that she has already gone on three rides since returning to Boise.
