Owyhee 4-star guard Liam Campbell signs with Saint Mary's

The top-rated recruit in Idaho and two-time 5A state champion reopened his recruitment after a coaching change at USC.

BOISE, Idaho — Owyhee High School senior and two-time state champion Liam Campbell signed with Saint Mary's on Friday, roughly one month after reopening his recruitment.

The four-star guard and former USC signee requested a release from his National Letter of Intent to the Trojans in April after Andy Enfield left to become the head coach at SMU, reported by On3

Campbell is the top-rated prospect in Idaho and ranked 80th nationally in the ESPN Top 100 for the class of 2024. The 6-foot-4 shooting guard was the lone boys basketball nominee from the Gem State for the 2024 McDonald's All American Game.

In its debut as a program, Campbell helped Owyhee captured the 5A state title in the 2021-2022 season, and was the only sophomore named to the All-SIC first team.

His recruitment immediately took off with offers from UC Santa Barbara and Washington State in December 2021, followed by USC, San Diego, Stanford and Boise State in 2022.

Campbell was named the 5A SIC Player of the Year as a junior. He averaged 20.1 points per game, guiding the Storm to their second-straight district championship and the state semifinals.

The decorated prep star closed his Owyhee career on top, winning his second state title this spring after a third consecutive district trophy. Campbell averaged 16.8 points per game as a senior and was recognized as the 5A SIC Player of the Year and Idaho Player of the Year.

Campbell will play for five-time West Coast Conference Coach of the Year Randy Bennett at Saint Mary's, who is coming off a 26-8 season and appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

Following Enfield's departure, USC named Eric Musselman its new men's basketball head coach on April 4. Musselman was previously the head coach at Arkansas.
