Kuna school board selects mascot for Swan Falls High School

A community survey provided three mascot possibilities: Raptors, Steelheads and Chargers.

Swan Falls High School has a mascot.

A community survey, the results of which were presented by Kuna School District Assistant Superintendent David Reinhart at the Sept. 10 school board meeting, provided three mascot possibilities: Raptors, Steelheads and Chargers.

The survey had nearly 1,000 respondents, who were prompted to select first, second and third place choices. Raptors had the most first place votes, and Chargers were a close second.

The board of trustees elected to choose the second place option, to pay tribute to the school’s namesake, Swan Falls Dam, the first hydroelectric dam on the Snake River.

“(The mascot) has to go with something electric because that was one of the earliest ... electric dams in the area,” said trustee Kim Nixon. “I love the idea of charging.”

The trustees unanimously voted to elect Swan Falls High School’s mascot the Chargers.

Swan Falls is expected to open next fall.
