Boise State's Chibuzo Agbo declares for NBA Draft, maintains college eligibility

Agbo will get NBA exposure and feedback while keeping the door open for a return to Boise State. He averaged a career-best 13.7 points per game last season.

BOISE, Idaho — One of the top talents on the Boise State men's basketball roster has decided to test the NBA Draft waters after wrapping up his best season as a Bronco.

Senior Chibuzo Agbo on Sunday confirmed to KTVB that he will enter the 2024 NBA Draft while maintaining his collegiate eligibility. The decision allows Agbo to get professional exposure, feedback from scouts and keeps the option of returning to Boise State open.

The 6-foot-7, 225-pound forward earned the first all-conference nod of his career last month from the Mountain West's head coaches, joining Max Rice on the honorable mention list. Agbo appeared in and started in all 33 games for the Broncos during the 2023-2024 campaign.

Agbo averaged a career-best 13.7 points per game, second to only Tyson Degenhart, while shooting 40.9% from the three-point line and 45.2% from the field. He also pulled down 5.1 rebounds per outing, ranking among all Broncos.

The San Diego native transferred to Boise State from Texas Tech two years ago. Agbo signed with the Red Raiders as a four-star prospect out of Saint Augustine High School, and finished his career in Lubbock with 80 points and 41 rebounds in 45 games played.

While he has played four years of college ball, Agbo can exercise an additional year of eligibility due to the impact of COVID-19. He would have to withdraw his name from the 2024 NBA Draft prior to May 29 in order to return to Boise State next season.

Sophomore guard Kobe Young earlier this month became the second scholarship player to enter the transfer portal, joining former Burley standout Jace Whiting. Redshirt freshman walk-on Kade Rice, the youngest son of Leon Rice, also entered the portal this offseason.

The NBA Draft moved to a two-night format for the 2024 event. The first round is set for June 26 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, with the second round on June 27 in New York at ESPN's Seaport District Studios.
