BOISE, Idaho — On Monday, Tyson Degenhart earned his first Mountain West Player of the Week award of his career. Degenhart earned the award after leading the Broncos in scoring and rebounds against the Clemson Tigers on Sunday. Clemson made the trip to ExtraMile and the Broncos beat them 84 to 71.
In their last match-up, Boise State lost to the Clemson Tigers 68-85 in Clemson. Clemson went on to make it into the Elite Eight that season.
In both games last week, Degenhart averaged 15.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2 assists in the Broncos' wins against Corban and Clemson. Sunday marked Degenhart's second time in his career with at least 20 points and at least 10 rebounds in a single game.
Boise State notes that while this is Degenhart's first Player of the Week honor, it is his tenth weekly honor from the conference as he was named the MW Freshman of the Week nine times in the 2021 season.
The senior from Spokane, WA has led Boise State to a 3-1 start to open the season and are set to play again during the Cayman Islands Classic on Sunday. The Broncos will open the tournament facing Hampton at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday before playing the winner of South Dakota State and Duquesne on Nov. 25.
Degenhart's recognition doesn't end there. Degenhart entered the 2024 season as the Mountain West Preseason Player of the Year, making him the first Bronco to earn the honor since 2020. Degenhart has also been added to the Naismith Men's Player of the Year watch list and was added to the Julius Erving Small Forward of the Year preseason watch list. Boise State says that going into this season, Degenhart has the opportunity to become Boise State's all-time leading scorer this season.
