Boise State climbs into first-place tie with 92-72 win over Wyoming

Boise State moved into a first-place tie in the Mountain West standings with another dominant win on Saturday night in Laramie.

BOISE, Idaho — Boise State claimed its third win in a row and moved into a first-place tie in the Mountain West standings on Saturday night by taking down Wyoming 92-72 in Laramie.

For the sixth-straight time, Tyson Degenhart led the Broncos (19-8, 10-4) in scoring with 22 points on 80% shooting from the field. The all-conference forward hit a trio of three-pointers, his most in a game this season.

O'Mar Stanley added 19 points and grabbed a team-high seven boards in the road win over the Cowboys (13-14, 6-8). Boise State's rebound advantage of 24 is the largest margin under head coach Leon Rice in a league contest.

"I'm really proud of our guys and the way we were rebounding and handled everything," Rice said. "The best thing we did tonight was we didn't overthink and I liked the mentality we had. It was a great road win for us."

Boise State's boost from its reserves continued on Saturday, as sophomore guard Jace Whiting tied his career-high with 10 points and true freshman Andrew Meadow totaled six. The bench has combined for 57 points the past three games.

Starters Max Rice, Roddie Anderson III and Chibuzo Agbo also filled the stat sheet at Arena-Auditorium in a game with five Bronco double-figure scorers. Rice recorded 16 points and six rebounds, while Agbo had six boards in 24 minutes and scored all seven of his points in the second half.

Anderson had three steals for third time as a Bronco, adding 12 points, four rebounds and three assists.

"I came into this game with a more aggressive mindset. The last few games I was playing a bit more timid," Anderson said. "I let the game come to me and as a team we weren't letting them make us take forced shots. We were able to pass up the good shots for great ones."

In a wild day in the Mountain West that saw No. 22 Colorado State fall to UNLV and Air Force beat New Mexico at The Pit, the Broncos walk away knotted up with Utah State (22-5, 10-4) on top.

Saturday's win marks Boise State's 900th as a DI program and its fourth in a row against the Cowboys. Sam Griffin led Wyoming with 16 points, while Mason Walters added 15 and Kael Combs had 12 points and five assists.

"We lost to a very good team, and we knew that coming in," Wyoming head coach Jeff Linder said. "When there are 140 possessions in a game, and it is the team that plays with the best effort that is going to win. For the guys moving forward we must have the ability to sit down and get some stops. To guard at this level is just a matter of guarding your guy. But we know it doesn't get any easier. We are disappointed, but we must move forward."

The Broncos remain on the road to face Air Force (9-17, 2-12) at 7 p.m. Tuesday, before returning to ExtraMile Arena against New Mexico on Saturday, March 2.
