BOISE, Idaho β Boise State captured both the men's and women's basketball Mountain West Player of the Week awards on Monday after a perfect 3-0 stretch between the two programs.
Sophomore Tatum Thompson became the first Bronco to capture the honor since November 2022 after scoring a career-high 21 points in Wednesday's 60-50 win over Fresno State. Thompson also tied a career-best with seven rebounds and grabbed two steals.
The 6-foot-1 guard was lights out late against the Bulldogs. Thompson scored 14 of Boise State's 16 points as the Broncos went from down four with 4:23 left in the third quarter, to up eight with 8:35 remaining in regulation. She finished 6-for-10 from the field and 7-for-11 on free throws (63.6%).
Sixth-year guard Max Rice earned the conference's top men's basketball weekly honor Monday for the second time in his career after averaging 23.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game between wins over then No. 19 New Mexico and Air Force.
Rice posted career-highs with 35 points and seven three-pointers as Boise State handed the Lobos their first loss at The Pit this season. He is the first Bronco to be named Mountain West Player of the Week this year.
In Saturday's 94-56 rout of the Falcons, Rice shot 50% from the field and scored 12 points. The Bishop Kelly graduate also recorded four rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Thompson and the Boise State women's basketball team plays at ExtraMile Arena twice this week, hosting San Jose State at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday and Wyoming at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Head coach Leon Rice and Co. visit Colorado State at 7 p.m. Tuesday, before traveling to Logan to face off with No. 22 Utah State at 8 p.m. Saturday. The Broncos received 49 votes in Monday's Associated Press Top 25 menβs college basketball poll, the fourth-most of teams outside the rankings.
