Stanley's 30 points power Boise State to 78-69 win over San Jose State

SAN JOSE, Calif. — O'Mar Stanley posted 30 points and 11 rebounds and Boise State converted 12-of-14 free throws over the final five minutes to overcome San Jose State 78-69 in its Mountain West opener Friday night. 

The Spartans (7-8, 0-2 MW) jumped out to a 19-10 advantage as Myron Amey Jr. hit three straight 3-pointers. The junior guard scored 24 points in the first half and the Broncos (10-4, 1-0) turned the ball over nine times. San Jose State took a 40-33 lead into the break. 

After going ahead 6-4 less than three minutes in, Boise State played from behind until just 3:57 remained in Friday's night first conference test. Stanley hit the first of two free throws to knot the score at 65-65 during a 10-0 run by the Broncos. 

The standout St. John's transfer went 7-of-8 from the line in clutch situations and 8-of-10 overall on free throws in the double-double effort. He finished 11-of-17 from the field (64.7%) as the Broncos rallied from a six-point deficit to defeat the Spartans 78-69.

All-Mountain West forward Tyson Degenhart shined in the second half of the win, scoring 17 of his 21 points in the final 20 minutes. Chibuzo Agbo scored 15 points on 6-of-11 and grabbed seven rebounds, while Max Rice added 12 points, seven rebounds and four assists. 

Stanley on Friday joined Chandler Hutchison and Abu Kigab as the only Boise State players with a 30-point, 10-rebound performance in the last 14 seasons under head coach Leon Rice. Across the last three contests, the junior forward is averaging 24.3 points and eight rebounds, shooting 64.3% from the floor and 90.0% on free throws.

Boise State is now 9-4 in Mountain West openers and owns a 39-4 all-time record against San Jose State. The Broncos limited Amey to five points in the second half and held the Spartans to 9-of-29 (31%) shooting and 1-of-13 (7.7%) from three after halftime. 

Stanley, Degenhart, Agbo and Rice accounted for all of Boise State's 78 points in Friday's road win. Amey led San Jose State with 30 points, while Trey Anderson added 13 points and Adrame Diongue had 10.
