BOISE, Idaho — Boise State quarterback Taylen Green is entering the transfer portal, Green tweeted Monday afternoon.
In a statement on X, Green said, "I love Boise State University, and I have truly enjoyed my time here. From the bottom of my heart, it has been an honor competing for this great University, and there is nothing I have taken more pride in than representing all of you when I took the field in blue and orange every week...
That being said, I will be entering the transfer portal, but I am not closing the door on returning to Boise State. I have put a tremendous amount of faith into God in ensuring that I make the decision that is right for me moving forward."
Green, a redshirt sophomore from Lewisville, Texas, has been with the program since 2021 and has appeared in 28 games for the Broncos.
He was named the starting quarterback midway through the 2022 season after former starting quarterback Hank Bachmeier left the program.
This season, Green shared playing time with freshman quarterback Maddux Madsen, as Boise State went with a two-quarterback system.
Madsen was named the starter against New Mexico on November 10 but went down with a season-ending injury. Green was reinstated as the starter for the remainder of the season.
On Saturday, the Broncos beat UNLV 44-20 to win the Mountain West Championship, the team's first since 2019.
Green was named the offensive MVP, with four total touchdowns.
During the post-game celebration, Green told KTVB Sports Director Jay Tust the win made it all worth it.
"I'm grateful. I'm just grateful to be on the field, grateful for Bronco Nation coming out and I'm just thankful."
No word yet on whether Green will play in the Broncos' upcoming bowl game, the L.A. Bowl, on December 16 against UCLA.
Currently listed on Boise State's roster quarterback depth chart are freshman CJ Tiller, freshman Max Cutforth, and redshirt sophomore Colt Fulton.
