BOISE, Idaho — The Boise State Broncos improved to 6-0 on the season after a 59-37 win over the Hawai'i Rainbow Warriors on Saturday night, but the big win wasn't enough to move the Broncos much in either the AP Top 25 Poll or the Amway Coaches Poll.
Boise State stayed at No. 14 in the AP Poll and moved up to 13th in the Coaches Poll.
Several AP Top 25 teams lost over the weekend, but only the Texas Longhorns, who were No. 11 going into week seven, dropped behind the Broncos. The Utah Utes jumped two spots to No. 13 after beating Oregon State 52-7.
Beating a 4-1 Hawai'i team late on a Saturday night by 22 points (Boise State was a 12.5 point favorite to win), which ended at about 2 a.m. on the East Coast, wasn't enough to convince AP voters to put the Broncos in front of six one-loss teams that were ranked ahead of Boise State.
Next week, there are two Top 25-matchups that Boise State fans may want to keep track of - No. 13 Utah hosts the 17th ranked Arizona State Sun Devils and No. 12 Oregon travels to Seattle to take on the 25th ranked Washington Huskies. No other teams ranked ahead of the Broncos play a Top 25 opponent.
Boise State takes on the 2-4 BYU Cougars next week in Provo, UT. The Cougars are on a three-game losing streak, including a 23-27 loss to 3-3 USF on Saturday.
Without any marquee matchups the rest of the season (4-2 Wyoming is the best remaining opponent on the schedule), Boise State will need more lopsided wins that beat the Vegas spread and teams ahead of them to fall for a better chance of moving up in the polls.
